Location: The Pocono Mountains
It’s time for me to write a book about my time practicing in the Amazon.
I’ll be doing this in a series of posts that can be considered chapters of that book, called “Way of Light.”
I’ll let you know up front that writing “Way of Light” is a decent challenge for me. And I mean “decent challenge” on multiple levels of analysis:
- Some of what I’ll be sharing is as deeply personal as things can go.
- I’m still determining the right balance of sharing too little or too much, both for me, and for you.
- I’ll be writing and sharing on a daily basis, so I’ve cut off the possibility of deliberating about what to share, and what not to share.
I’ll be sharing the blood, sweat, and tears, along with maybe some other liquids, solids, and gases.
This means you’ll have a front row seat to watch me walk a tight rope, every day, my dear reader. 🙂
There Is Some Risk Here
I’ll also be the first to tell you that this may not work.
The writing might get too intense for me.
The writing might get too intense for you.
The writing might challenge our beliefs too much (mine and yours both!).
But I’ll also be the first to say that “might not work” is a fundamental requirement of any good adventure I’ve ever been on. I imagine your experience has been similar.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get into a bit of the Why, How, and What of this.
Why I’m Writing and Sharing “Way of Light”
There are plenty of good reasons, but the first and foremost is so that maybe I can help someone else interested in, just starting on, or who might receive benefit from learning about this path.
Which “path” am I talking about in this case?
Some people might call it a path of “healing,” but I’d prefer to call by other names:
- A path of Stillness and Motion.
- A path of working with Ancestral Plant Medicines.
- A path of Facing our Shadow, Integrating our Nature, and receiving whatever may come from that, light or heavy, with Arms Wide Open.
This will be a story about all of the above paths, and maybe many more. Maybe even a Path to Infinity (and beyond).
Now, I know that all of this might already be “too much” for some readers, and fair enough. Maybe they consider themselves very rational people who don’t engage in mythologies and fairy tales.
I’ve felt like that myself before. I’m glad to point out the possibility that we may very well be living in the biggest fairy tale we ever saw or heard of, but we can get into that later.
For others, they may have deeply held beliefs that have told them that everything they need to know about the structure of reality exists within their tradition. Maybe the clerics of their tradition even told them that people who don’t follow them are going to hellish places.
Again, I’ve been there. No special system of belief here. We don’t have any special creed that anyone else doesn’t already also have deep inside (and all around) them. Just gonna share some experiences that you are welcome to read.
Lastly, some people might land here who simply think any sort of “therapy” is for “sissies,” or that any kind of “spiritual journey” is for “hippies,” or that this is for other people who are not like them.
For those folks, I can only share my experience that we all receive what is required, when it’s required. I participated in a lot of bloody, violent, tough stuff in Iraq, and I used to think I knew better as well. We all live and learn. And unlearn.
Ultimately, from where I’m sitting, we’re already quite perfect just as we are.
Relatively, there might be all sorts of things we could work on, you and I both. And so that’s what we’re here to talk about in “Way of Light.” Ways we can (maybe) make things better for ourselves, others, and the environment at large.
Ideas on how to (maybe) be a more aware, less distracted, less repressed, more expressed, more integrated human being. That’s some of what we’ll talk about.
How I’m Writing and Sharing “Way of Light”
We can think of “Way of Light” as a livestream book writing!
I’ll be posting a chapter here on Mindful And Moving every day, raw, with minimal editing.
Those of you reading and giving feedback will essentially be co-creating a book with me. This will be the “first draft.”
As mentioned earlier, this will be a challenge for me. It’s quite possible some things won’t immediately connect, but I’m willing to take that risk in order to ship this, daily.
And maybe some things will connect, and that would be great!
What “Way of Light” Will Look Like
For those who didn’t yet see this post, here is the table of contents:
Way of Light: Table of Contents*
- The Calling
- The Shadow
- Ceremony #1: Presence
- Ceremony #2: Unconditional Feeling
- Ceremony #3: Finding What Was Lost
- Ceremony #4: The Terrible Master (can be a wonderful servant)
- Ceremony #5: Praying for Forgiveness
- Ceremony #6: Unconditional Love
- Ceremony #7: Appreciation
- The Fool
*”Table of Contents” is subject to evolution because “Way of Light” will be written and published day by day, and shared with you as it’s written.
For this first draft, I will not be mentioning any of their names or crucial details, unless they ask me to.
After the first draft, maybe I’ll share more in that way, but I’d need to talk with them much more before any of that.
In other words, I will fiercly protect the identities of anyone involved, unless they specifically ask me to do otherwise.
Thank you for following along on this journey with me.
We’ll be diving, head first, into “The Calling” tomorrow.
God bless you and whoever you hold dear.
